| Electronic Publications, e-Learning and Blended Learning |
We believe strongly in the merit of affordable / accessible teaching and training for all (on-the-job-training where possible, hence our drive for electronic delivery). We believe education to be a life-long process, giving value to the learner as well as to his environment.
Our authors and educators have a broad base of experience and are practising what they preach in themselves learning more every day.
|
We keep abreast of global developments in delivering training and teaching online (SCORM standards, AECMA 1000D and local SETA requirements, etc), and enthusiastically support universal access to Internet.
Due to our own unique circumstances in South Africa, we consider blended learning to be even more effective than e-learning or online learning.
We usually collaborate with one of our partner companies, eduflex.com, in terms of content delivery (VirtualBook ®) and course management systems (VirtualAssessor™).
On the other end of the spectrum, we have also effectively used the humble .pdf, even in hard copy!
|
IQS (with eduflex.com) has done e-Learning projects in the Naval environment including:
Submarine Periscopes (English and Spanish)
Introduction to Boilers (cartoon style physics course)
Side Ramp (Technical training for a supply ship)
Training courses for Logistic Management Software.
IQS Academic brings a knowledge base of primary school and tertiary education in both South Africa and the UK to the e-Learning field.

The Introduction to Boilers was a Introduction to Physics done in cartoon style:
When the SA Navy owned SAS OUTENIQUA (an icebreaker in a previous life), sailors had to become comfortable with a technology of the past, namely that of boilers.
Many of those involved wiht the boilers had Grade 10 as highest academic qualification, and English was not their home language, but they did have access to PC's.
IQS Solutions solved this dilemma with blended learning.
This blended learning consisted of a cartoon-style VirtualBook® (See eduflex.com) combined with SA Navy Taskbooks.
This concept proved very successful in communicating tricky concepts such as corrosion, simply and effectively.
The on-the-job training concept also resulted in reduced time away from work (downtime) due to training.
This was important as SAS OUTENIQA was an operational ship.
We are proud of our contribution to the fact that, when the SAS OUTENIQA was eventually sold, her boilers were in very good shape!
